Faith: Belief or Experience?
We often think of faith as a feeling, a set of beliefs, or a conviction. But I’ve actually come to believe that in our Christian journey, faith isn't merely blind belief; it's a steadfast trust forged through personal encounters and divine revelations. In other words, when we talk of faith we can point to times and moments that faith was proved real in our lives. Here are some ways I’ve seen that work.
Faith is Personal Encounters with Trust
In the Bible, Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." This foundational verse underscores that faith is not blind, but rather a confident assurance based on our experiences with God. Just as trust in a close relationship grows through shared moments, our faith in God strengthens as we witness His faithfulness in our lives.

Faith is Experiencing Answered Prayers
Psalm 34:4-6 declares, "I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles." These verses resonate deeply with those who have experienced the tangible presence of God through answered prayers. When we see prayers answered in ways that surpass human understanding, it solidifies our trust in God's providence and care.
Faith is Finding Peace in God's Presence
Jesus Himself reassures us in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." This promise of peace amidst life's storms is a cornerstone of Christian faith. When we encounter moments of unexpected tranquility and calmness, we recognize God's intimate involvement in our lives, guiding us through challenges with His comforting presence.
Faith Is Strength in Times of Hardship
Scripture further encourages us in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, where Paul writes, "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." These verses illustrate how our faith grows through adversity, as we lean on God's strength and experience His power working in and through our weaknesses.
How is Your Faith?
In conclusion, Christian faith is a journey of trust and relationship with God, nurtured through personal encounters and anchored in His Word. As we reflect on answered prayers, moments of peace, and strength in hardship, we see how faith evolves from a theoretical concept to a lived reality. By sharing our testimonies, we not only glorify God's faithfulness but also inspire others to deepen their own faith journey. May our lives be a testament to the transformative power of trusting in God, who continues to reveal Himself to those who seek Him with open hearts.
